As I was trying to get the domum project to work and since I was spending a lot of time in front of my computer I decided that I wanted a hobby to unload the stress.
So I came in touch for the first time with wordpress and its magical abilities to be able to make your own site on your own and without much knowledge.
This led me to create a small and simple blog that focused on travel.
A blog that started out as a hobby and ended up in my 1st “success”.
It’s name? Gloholiday.com
As you can see from its title, this time I did something in another language, English. It was time for the 6+ years of effort and money in English courses to take place.
So since I didn’t have much time at that time and I was influenced by books like The 4 hour Work Week I decided to hire a cheap outsourcer to help me.
And so it happened. Through the (current) Upwork I hired someone from India who would be paid every time he achieved a specific milestone.
For a long time I was not quite active with the blog and the results in traffic were bad and in revenue zero.
About 1 year afterwards I have learned a lot about how the wordpress platform works and I took matters into my own hands.
The domum was now giving up its last breaths and I needed a new project to forget and at the same time new goals to pursue.
After I fired the Indian, I started working on the blog myself. And that’s when the results started to come.
After another 1 year trials and errors, I started to have a lot of traffic from social media and especially the then not so well known pinterest.
I will not lie. Reaching the blog at a satisfactory point actually took me 2 years of effort and many times I wanted to give up.
But I didn’t do it and that was a virtue I gained from my previous efforts. Don’t give up easily.
The project in 1.5 years brings 2 digit monthly income from google ads. At the beginning of 1 or 2€, a little later, it went up to 10€ and 20€ and after a few more months, it reached 100€+ in income.
As the traffic and income increased, so did my appetite to keep pushing.
Suddenly a second source of income knocked on my door.
One day I received an email from someone I didn’t know who would give me money to publish an article on my blog which would contain 1 or 2 links back to his site.
That’s how the income starts to increase and something that started as a hobby came to bring me over 1,000€ a month. There were months when I was even over 2,000€ a month.
It was generally a nice period. Gloholiday continued to bring me good profits and at the same time it didn’t consume me much time to maintain.
So I started buying small blogs from flippa.com in an attempt to clone the whole process, as well as create new ones from scratch.
I also met another Greek through flippa and we started doing some small blogs together for flipping.
But because everything ends one day, I decided that I wanted to exit this particular project and all the smaller ones I was working on at the time.
One reason was that I saw that pinterest would start to change its algorithms like facebook did and that would have a big impact on my traffic.
Other reasons were that I couldn’t scale the model further and now was the right time to get out.
So I put the main site as well as the rest for sale on flippa.
Gloholiday was finally sold for 15,500$ in December of 2015 becoming one of the most popular auctions and an editor choice at the time.
Also here you can take a look at my flippa profile that reached 25,523$ in transactions.
And that’s kind of how I got at almost 27 years old with about 25,000€ in cash looking to find my next step.
And the next step came 1 year later, in a new country this time, Germany.
