This time I decided to do something more serious, more organized and I was determined to succeed.
So once again at 23 and with my brother as a partner we decided that we wanted to build a real estate platform where brokers and construction companies would be able to promote their properties for sale or rent.
This was nothing new in Greece, as similar and relatively successful platforms already existed.
We wanted to play the game a little differently. We basically wanted to provide a more complete proposal to brokers and constructers.
We wanted our site to present any house in a better and more serious way than the rest of the competition.
The purpose was to undertake the full assignment of the real estate so that there are no incomplete assignments, without prices, descriptions or even photos. So we would be the ones to do that job for them.
Since we had no idea of programming we needed more capital to do it. So we got in touch with a professional to create a business plan.
The goal was to get a better idea of what we wanted to do and with this plan to go to the next step which was what else, to find someone willing to invest in our idea.
And after a cost of about 3.000€ for the plan and enough searching, we found him. After several meetings and negotiations, we agreed on a 50.000€ investment.
So we set up a corporate format and started working. We found the right person to create the platform and when it was finally ready it went online on February 2012. The name? Domum.gr
We hired an experienced marketing manager to help us get the right picture for the manufacturers so that they could better understand what we offer.
We also hired an SEO specialist to help us rank on google.
The project had a lot of problems and almost everything was due to my own inexperience as well as my wrong mentality.
I did not properly assess the situation and especially how difficult it is to scale such a plan.
The truth is that I had people warn me about the difficulty of such a plan but I did not listen to them. I almost never wanna hear it.
I was and still am of the opinion that it is better to regret something you did and to apologize than something you did not do and getting permission of others.
And that’s how i once again failed…
After a total effort of about 2.5 years, the company naturally closed, the investor and we lost a lot of money (about 25.000€) but mainly time and energy.
The platform and some other small things that were in the company passed into the hands of the investor and the lights went out.
This particular experience was a very bad experience that stigmatized me I can say.
The mentality that it is easy to make a project and that it is enough to have an idea and money has collapsed. It also made me lose my self-confidence and want to protect myself and others in the future from similar situations.
One of my talents has always been persuasion. If I wanted to, I could convince everyone of anything.
It’s a talent I decided not to use again, a promise I kept for a few years before we moved to Germany.
